I am married to Natalie, and we have four children – Faith, Sam, Luke, and Hope.

I grew up in a new suburb on the edge of Perth where I walked through bush to get to school and played with kids whose parents came from around the world. My parents worked hard to build a small business after my father served in the Navy, and I worked in the family business from a young age.

An interest in community and current events led me to journalism. I started as a cadet reporter on a country newspaper and worked my way up to police reporter for ABC News before joining Channel Nine News and eventually Seven News where I worked for more than 20 years. I often reported on battlers standing up for a fair go against bureaucracy or big business, and this encouraged my interest in the potential for politics to help create a better, fairer community.

In March 2017, I was elected as a Member of the Western Australian Parliament to serve the people of the new electorate of Baldivis. The electorate includes the suburbs of Baldivis, Wellard, and parts of Waikiki and Cooloongup.

As your MP, I fought for the widening of Kwinana Freeway, the building of new government schools, and upgrades and new facilities for our existing schools. I delivered on major local promises for Baldivis Children’s Forest, local horse riding facilities for disabled children, the Brumbies Football Club, the White Knights Cricket Club, provided an emergency vehicle for Baldivis volunteer firefighters, and delivered many other commitments.

I am a strong voice for Baldivis in the Cook Government, where I serve as Minister for Energy; Environment; and Climate Action. I was on the Parliamentary Committee that helped deliver Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD), and I introduced legislation for the 10c drink container deposit laws.

I know that good jobs, quality local schools, accessible health care, efficient transport, and safe and secure neighbourhoods are crucial to helping families get ahead and have better lives. My own experience as a father confirmed my belief that everyone – no matter who you are or where you live - should have access to opportunities to reach their full potential to succeed in life. It’s this core belief that drives me to get things done for the Baldivis electorate.
