The Mangrove Cove all abilities nature play area is a $2.39 million project featuring mangrove root inspired climbing frames, ladders, slides, rope nets and rope bridges. Its design is influenced by the unique mangrove system found in the Leschenault Inlet.
The ground level facilities of the inclusive play area include a wheelchair accessible sand pit and tunnels, water play area, basket swing, drums, chimes and cubbies. There are also picnic, barbeque and toilet facilities. A walkway winds through the play area, accompanied with a lookout deck providing sweeping views of the Leschenault Inlet.
The nature play area was built by BGC Construction, with 89.5 per cent of the contract value completed by workers based in the regional city.
The project was jointly managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the Department of Finance with funding from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
